Bringing Calm to the World, One Person at a Time
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system–comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and the spinal cord.
Using a soft touch, generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, the practitioner releases restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
What the heck does that all mean? Your body is invited to heal itself, by allowing it to focus on its injuries and traumas. Imagine your desk during a really busy time–lots of things need attention, but only the high priority items get it. Stacks start to form, to be dealt with ‘when you can’. Your body is the same way–the major traumas take precedence over the minor ones, until the minor stuff stacks up so high that there’s an avalanche. The pain you’re feeling in your neck may be an accumulation of a whole bunch of minor stresses that have hit critical mass. CST helps the body to quiet itself, and clean out some of the thing it may have been too busy to deal with.
By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventative health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease. It’s effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Chronic Fatigue
- Emotional Difficulties
- Stress & Tension Related Problems
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
What will I feel?
For some people, a session of CST is a powerful, life changing event. For others, it is a gentle reversal of body issues–barely noticeable at the time of the therapy, but changes have occurred nonetheless. Some people will have emotional reactions, and some will feel only a gentle wave of clearing. Each person’s perception is different, as different as the issues that they bring to the table.
